Keeping the Heat On

When no other options remain, The Salvation Army is here to help.

HeatShare Program

HeatShare is offered at most Salvation Army operation centers in Minnesota. In communities where HeatShare funding isn't available, other Salvation Army partners may have resources. Call 1-800-842-7279 to get assistance in your area or learn more using the drop downs below.

  • Low-income seniors
  • Those living with a disability that prevents them from maintaining a steady income
  • Anyone experiencing an unexpected financial emergency

HeatShare is unlike other heat assistance programs because it's based almost exclusively on need. Though families must first prove they've been denied county or other assistance, their eligibility for HeatShare is then determined by only two factors — need and available HeatShare funding. To get help, either call our hotline at 1-800-842-7279 or find the local office that serves your area to call them directly.

Financial support comes from utility customers and people like you who give online to The Salvation Army HeatShare or via their monthly utility bills (some providers include a HeatShare donation option in statements). Additional support comes from local utility companies and other organizations.

Among others, companies that support HeatShare include: CenterPoint Energy, Xcel Energy, MERC, Minnesota Power, Rural Electric Associations of Minnesota, Minnesota Municipal Utilities, Minnesota Mechanical Contractors Association.

Annually, the Heatshare program provides approximately 7,800 households with an average of $400 to keep their homes warm.

The program's budget is nearly $1.2 million a year. But that still isn't enough. Year after year, requests for assistance are typically greater than the available resources. Annually, nearly 40,000 households request HeatShare assistance.

You can easily donate online. You can also call 1-800-SAL-ARMY (725-2769) and designate your donations to "HeatShare" or make a donation on your monthly utility bill (contact your provider). All donations are tax-deductable.
